Contest Information
Who can enter the contests?
All full members as well as trial members may enter our contests.
How are the contests judged? Who selects the winners?
Photo of the Day images are selected by a panel of Digital Image Cafe judges.

Our Photo of the Month picks consist of the previous month's POTD images, that are then judged by the board at the NAPP.

Our Photo of the Quarter images are selected by the editors of Shutterbug Magazine.
How do I get selected for your Photo of the Month Contest?
All Photo of the Month selections are the previous month's Photos of the Day. Appetizer wins are not eligible for prizes.
What size images, both in physical size (height x width) and file size (kb's) are accepted?
Please size your images no larger than 800 or shorter than 640 pixels on the long side and no smaller than 480 on the short side. Panos should be no greater than 3200 pixels long and no less than 480 pixels on the short side. Panos should have no less than a 2x1 ratio. Images outside this range will not be considered for the contest. File size must not exceed 300kb.
Into which category should I enter my image?

Below apply to all Categories

With the exception of the Digital Art Category; Excessive Digital Manipulation, Selective Desaturation, Digitally added Frames (a 2px maximum border on edge of photo is allowed) and/or Text not allowed.

Though there is a separate category for B&W photography, members may enter a B&W or IR photo in any category as long as the content fits the subject guideline for that category.

Global Processes (as in “the entire photo” not just a selection(s)) such as Levels, Color Adjustments, HDR and RAW processing are NOT considered Digital Art.

Entries must still appear natural otherwise it will be considered DA.

Photo of the Day selections are final with the exception of copyright infringements and duplicate wins. See Terms of Use for overall Member Content Restrictions.

Please remember that the entire judging process is done manually by real human beings, mistakes will be made from time to time.

How often may I enter the contests?
You may enter our Photo of the Day contest every day. One image per day may be submitted for each of the eight categories. Our upload page is very helpful in showing all of your previous entries, as well as your previous wins. Submitted images appear before the judges for 7 days. Please do not submit it again in less than 10 days. (In layman's terms: If you submit on Jan 1, 2008 at any time during this full day, you may not resubmit until Jan 11th at 12:01AM or there after. A complete 10 days.) Guidelines are that once an image has won any category, it must not be entered into our contests again. All winning POTD images remain in our archives.
What are the Appetizers?
The Appetizer section is an additional contest secondary to the main contest. Members with less than 10 Photo of the Day (POTD) wins are eligible for this contest section. Appetizer entries remain in the judging pool for 10 days which is 3 days longer than the main contest. This section of the judging pool is populated only those members with less than 10 wins whom have not opted-out of the section. Appetizer wins are not eligible for prizes only front page display.
I won a prize in a contest, however I have not received it yet. Who can I contact?
Most prizes are shipped directly from our sponsors. They have been very prompt with shipping, however if you haven't received notification from them within a couple of weeks of having your prize announced, please contact us, and we will contact the sponsor for you to get the status. NOTE: The delivery of prizes is the responsibility of the sponsor and not the Cafe.
What prizes does Digital Image Cafe award?
We're proud to announce that our prize list for 2006 is over $50,000 (suggested combined retail value for Photo of the Month and Photo of the Quarter prizes) for the year! Click the following link for a list of current Prizes.
Is a Trial Membership eligible to win prizes?
Picture of the Day (POTD) winners that are under a Trial Membership are not eligible to receive monthly, quarterly or any other prize or promotion unless the Trial Membership is converted to a Full Membership and Membership Activation Fee is paid before the month of the POTD has ended.
What is a Thumb's Up?

Judges can now provide feedback on images. They can select up to 10 images per day with a "thumbs up" across all categories in total. The thumbs will display on the user's upload page, letting them know that a judge liked the image even if it wasn't selected as POTD.

Critique Corner
What is the POTW (Picture of the Week)?
  • Photo of the Week winners will be selected by the previous POTW winner.
  • In the event that the previous winner is not available to make the selection, it will be made by Digital Image Cafe judges.
  • Galleries
If I upload to my gallery or the critique gallery, will my image automatically be entered in a contest?
No, your contest images are separate from your gallery or critiqued image uploads. There are three different databases that we use to track images, and each one must be in its own area.
How many images may I upload to my personal gallery?
Members may upload a total of 100 images to their personal gallery. Web site owners may upload 300 images. You may use your member gallery management page to change your images whenever you'd like.
What are the guidelines for submitting to the Critique Gallery?
We ask that you not upload more than three images to the Critique Gallery per day. Since this section is a learning section, we also ask that you critique/comment on at least two images for every image you submit.
I would like to comment on other member's photos, but I'm not sure what etiquette is acceptable.
Our critique section is for learning and sharing information. Critiques/comments should be kept constructive. Members that upload to this gallery must also understand that its purpose is to receive feedback from others. If you don't feel comfortable getting comments from others, please don't upload here.
